Yukon woman claims RCMP used excessive force

(CBC News) – A Carcross, Yukon, woman has filed a complaint against the RCMP, claiming that officers used excessive force when they arrested her earlier this month.

Yukon RCMP have asked police from Camrose, Alta., to conduct an independent investigation of the woman’s complaint, Sgt. Don Rogers confirmed on Thursday.

RCMP officers were called to a Carcross-area home in the early hours of April 12 to investigate a domestic violence complaint.

A man and a woman were arrested and taken into RCMP cells in Whitehorse, according to police.

The woman who was arrested then made a complaint against the RCMP on April 20, alleging that the officers unlawfully arrested her and used excessive force.

Police did not release the woman’s name on Thursday.

The RCMP officers who were involved in the incident are still on duty, according to police.
