Re: Public Inquiry into RCMP
It took 17 years and a new government before the Air India inquiry was called. The same government that called for that inquiry is now balking at a full inquiry into our tainted RCMP, opting for a private inquiry instead.
The RCMP is more than a police force; it is an icon, and the force that always “got our man” got tarnished instead. We need to know why.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper stated the Air India inquiry was about finding answers to key questions about the worst mass murder in Canadian history. There are more than a few questions that need answering about the force, such as how its leadership could swindle its members’ pension plan.
We need to fix the force properly by rebuilding its foundation. The new government’s approach has me wondering if they are hiding something as they did with the Afghan detainees, or are they just prematurely slipping into entitlement mode?
