Toronto officer faces another G20 assault charge

Jill Mahoney (Globe and Mail) – A Toronto police officer is facing a second G20-related assault charge.

Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani has been charged with assault with a weapon for allegedly hitting a woman with his baton at Queen’s Park on June 26. He was arrested and charged on Tuesday, the Toronto Police Service said.

Constable Andalib-Goortani also faces a charge of assault with a weapon in relation to injuries sustained by protester Adam Nobody.

Police said the service began a criminal investigation on Jan. 21 after the Office of the Independent Police Review Director received a complaint.

Constable Andalib-Goortani is to appear in court on March 7.

Mr. Nobody, a stage builder, was at Queen’s Park on June 26 when he was wrestled to the ground by a group of officers, an incident videoed by a bystander and posted on YouTube. He suffered a broken nose and cheekbone.
