A senior Mountie in charge of the RCMP’s purse strings is stepping down, a week after being criticized in an investigation into the police force’s pension fund scandal.
The CBC is reporting that Deputy Commissioner Paul Gauvin, the force’s chief financial officer, is leaving his position but he is not off the force.
The CBC says he announced Friday that he will become the RCMP’s special adviser on major capital projects.
Mr. Gauvin is a former public servant who joined the Mounties as a civilian member in 1999.
Last week a federal investigator released a report on allegations that high-ranking Mounties covered up problems in the administration of the RCMP’s $12-billion pension and insurance fund.
The report blasted former RCMP commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli and criticized Mr. Gauvinm, accusing him of refusing to accept any responsibility” for what went wrong.
