MaY0, Yukon (Postmedia News) – A dive team looking for a Mountie who’s been missing since a boating accident last week in the Yukon has completed its search of the area where he was last seen without finding him, but the search is continuing further downstream, RCMP said Sunday.
Const. Michael Potvin, 26, has been missing since Tuesday, when a police boat capsized.
“Even though the divers have completed their search of the probable location, the focus of the search will now transition to areas downstream using boats and aircraft patrols,” said Cpl. Cam Lockwood.
RCMP said members of the officer’s family are actively involved in the search as well as many members of local communities.
Searchers have been using boats, helicopters, thermal imaging, a search dog and an aircraft, in their efforts to find Potvin, whose pregnant wife is expecting their first child.
“The communities have been providing an overwhelming effort to help us,” said Sgt. Dave Rodgers of RCMP.
