Things do happen very quickly, and decisions right or wrong are made .Lots of time to armchair quarter back AFTER THE FACT . If I would have heard from any of the 4 RCMP Members involved, give any testimony during the public enquiry and admit that they may have overeacted to a man with a stapler , I may feel a little empathy for the RCMP Members concerned. I believe any reasonable person could have deducted , whether law enforcement trained or not that Mr Dziekansk , could have been easily restrained without the use of supplemental weapons , such as CEW. I would attribute the members reaction to poor judgement , coupled with deficent RCMP training . I believe that RCMP has ammended its CEW guidelines since the unfortunate incident. I believe any law enforcement agency would welcome additional checks and balances in the form of a watchdog to alleviate future criticism. My heart goes out to the Dziekanski family.
