RCMP start aggressive recruitment campaign

(NEWS1130) Vancouver, B.C. – RCMP are offering numerous incentives to new recruits–including a ‘fast-tracked’ application process, and a first-posting close to home. But they insist they have not lowered their standards.

The RCMP has a national recruiting goal of hiring 1,792 officers a year for the next five years.  The new Accelerated Application Process (AAP) has been implemented, which can put a limited number of potential applicants through the hiring process in 83 days.  The traditional process can take an average 333 days.

But RCMP Staff Sergeant Doug Ferguson says they are not making it ‘easier’ to be a cop.  While the process is faster, you still have to go through all the steps.  “And our process is standardized.  It’s a nine-phase, 131-step process.  It’s very detailed and very involved.”

The RCMP have also launched a new campaign exclusively for recruits from the Lower Mainland, telling them they will be posted to a detachment in the Vancouver area–guaranteed–if they meet certain conditions, and if that’s what they want.

Anyone interested is invited to attend a special career presentation this Saturday at the Justice Institute of British Columbia Lecture Theatre, 715 McBride Blvd, New Westminster.  A first presentation will be held at 9:00 am and a second one at 12:00 pm.

  1. Sorry JohnnyG but they lowered that years ago. Some color blindness is allowed, whereas before, it was not.

    Advertising hokum. People have gone back to local areas for years.

  2. If the RCMP lower their hiring standards to accommodate “visible-minorities” at the expense of Canadian-born white males, as was the practice in 2005, then I can only surmise the quality of future police recruits hovering close to the level as shown in this short video.

    Upon reading the bottom portion in the above link, it stated — “As the National Post reported on June 27, 2005, the so-called shortfall of qualified applicants to the RCMP academy was due to its gender and racial hiring quotas that required WHITE males [must] score 20% higher than women…… and 33% HIGHER than visible minorities on aptitude tests to be accepted!”

  3. First off, I don’t think they can lower their standards any lower than they already have. Vision is the only standard they have left.

    I wonder if this means white males will be processed in 83 days or does this mean everyone else.

    As far as I know, anyone from the lower mainland who wanted to go back usually has. This is nothing new.
