RCMP Spt. Chambers disciplined by force

August 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Prince George’s top cop has been internally disciplined by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. A long investigation into Supt. Dahl Chamber’s conduct with a former city employee has resulted in discipline, but not discipline that is publicly disclosed.

Several months ago the internal controversy resulted, as reported at the time by The Citizen, in an order for Chambers to apologize in writing to the four people with whom he was involve in the matter. He was also ordered to undergo what the RCMP terms “operational guidance” to address any lingering issues. This was done, The Citizen has learned, but more investigation ensued.

“There was a second investigation - an informal code of conduct investigation - that was just concluded this week,” provincial RCMP spokesman Sgt. Tim Shields told The Citizen. “Because it is an informal code of conduct investigation, the results are not made public. If it were a formal code of conduct, the sanctions are much more serious and the hearing is public. I don’t even know the final out come other than there was some form of discipline made after the code of conduct was complete.”

Chambers did not immediately return calls of inquiry to The Citizen.

Young inexperienced employees may be expected to display this kind of behavior, but for a very senior officer commanding a large department, it is totally unacceptable and should call for his removal from that position as he has demonstrated extremely poor leadership and behavior on an ongoing basis.

Prince George’s top cop must say sorry

Prince George B.C.’s top cop will have to write apologies to four civilian workers who accused him of harassment earlier this year.

The punishment was ordered as part of a second informal investigation into questionable conduct by RCMP Superintendent Dahl Chambers.

The outcome of the informal probe will not be released, but the Mounties have confirmed the apologies will be issued as a result of the investigation.

The apology and a requirement that Dahl undergo “operational guidance” stemmed from an earlier investigation in March after harassment allegations were made by Ken Corrigan, the top civilian employee in the detachment.

Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass, B.C.’s highest ranking RCMP officer, found Dahl engaged in demeaning name calling and made belittling or embarrassing comments.
