Who is keeping them accountable?

RCMP report expected soon

Victoria, B.C. (Vancouver Sun ) - B.C.’s police watchdog is expecting a progress report by RCMP officers investigating allegations of misconduct made against Victoria Police Chief Paul Battershill.

“The report is due mid-January,” Police Complaint Commissioner Dirk Ryneveld said Thursday. “But that might not be a final report. The legislation requires progress reports on ordered investigations. Either I’ll get something in writing or there will be a meeting.”

Ryneveld said a team of four officers were working diligently on the file. He could not say how many people have been interviewed.

Battershill was suspended with pay in November. Mayor Alan Lowe, chairman of the Victoria police board and discipline authority for the chief, has refused to say why the chief is being investigated, other than to say it has to do with a “personnel issue.”
