RCMP releases prisoner by mistake

Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan (CBC News) – RCMP in Meadow Lake are looking for another missing prisoner.

Five days ago, the RCMP mistakenly released Sandra Bell from custody after taking her to the town for a court appearance. Bell, 33, who is also known as Sandra Montgrand, had gone before a judge and a charge against her was stayed.

But instead of taking her back into custody on another matter, the RCMP let her go and only noticed the mistake Monday about 2 p.m.

Bell is not considered a threat to the community, the RCMP said. She’s described as five feet, seven inches tall, 169 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Police are asking anyone with information about Bell’s whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

It’s the second time in the past month police in the Meadow Lake area had to look for a prisoner.

Don Curtis Cheenanow, 28, was supposed to appear in Meadow Lake court on Sept. 14 when other prisoners distracted the guards and he ran away.

Cheenanow was captured five days later in his home town, Loon Lake, and is back in custody.
