RCMP officer set to face court on perjury charge

(Vancouver Province) – An RCMP officer has been charged with perjury after court testimony in 2009 and is scheduled to appear in court April 13.

Cpl. Michael Nelson, who is currently posted to the Upper Fraser Valley detachment, is alleged to have perjured himself testifying in a 2007 case concerning the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Nelson, who has 22 years service with the RCMP, has been suspended from duty with pay since March 2009.

“A separate RCMP internal Code of Conduct investigation was also initiated and Cpl. Nelson will have to appear at a formal disciplinary hearing before an adjudication board,” said Annie Linteau, RCMP media relations officer.

  1. Nelson must be a really bad liar and we can see his punishment has already started. So far one years PAID VACATION,will this be drug out so Nelson can get his full pension or get the charges dropped cause it took so long to get to court? Sad either way. Cops should be held to a higher standard not let off with nothing.
