An RCMP officer in Shediac has been given a six-month conditional sentence for a sexual assault on another officer’s wife.
He pleaded guilty to the charge in March.
Alain Heon, 41, showed little emotion as the judge handed down the sentence. Heon will spend two months under house arrest, and a year on probation. He has to provide a DNA sample, and register as a sex offender.
He was also ordered to donate $1,000 to “Crossroads for women,” a shelter for battered women in Moncton.
Last September, Heon met the wife of a fellow officer at a Moncton bar, after spending the day drinking at a golf tournament.
As they talked about her husband’s career, Heon began staring at her breasts and then grabbed them. She told him to stop, but he then put his hand up her skirt.
The victim’s impact statement outlined how the incident affected her. She said she became depressed and said it affected “every aspect of her life.”
After Heon was sentenced, the victim, who can not be identified under the law, cried and was still shaken when she talked to reporters.
“It’s not a matter of being satisfied,” she said. “I just didn’t want to…I’m just too nervous. I’m sorry guys.”
Heon has already faced an internal reprimand from the RCMP.
He was docked 21 days pay, and suspended from his job.
An RCMP spokesperson says the force will now meet to decide Heon’s future. He said a discharge from the force is likely.
