RCMP officer removed from duties after arrest

(Winnipeg Sun) – A 32-year-old RCMP officer has been arrested and removed from duty following a domestic dispute that allegedly occurred last Friday afternoon.

The dispute was reported to RCMP Saturday morning. The officer, who is stationed in what RCMP termed the “West District” of Manitoba, was charged with assault and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The investigation revealed the weapon involved was a knife, said RCMP. The officer was released on a promise to appear with conditions.

The accused is an RCMP constable with two-and-a-half years of service. He has been removed from operational duties and his status is being reviewed. He was off-duty at the time of the incident. The victim did not require any medical treatment.

RCMP say the name of the officer involved and where he is stationed is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

The accused is scheduled to appear in provincial court next month.
