RCMP officer likely to face shoplifting charges

New Glasgow, N.S. – A Pictou County RCMP officer is being investigated by New Glasgow police after allegedly shoplifting at a store Sunday.

Chief Delaney Chisholm of the New Glasgow police said Tuesday charges are pending.

Officers from New Glasgow were called by a loss prevention employee at an unidentified retail store.
“It was a large retail outlet, but we’re not disclosing the name,” said Chief Chisholm said.

Chief Chisholm said he expects that the officer, who was not identified, will be charged in two to three days.

Sgt. Law Power of the Pictou County District RCMP said an internal code of conduct investigation has begun into the allegations.

Sgt. Power said the officer is not on active duty with the force and has not been since sometime before the alleged theft.

“The officer is not currently an active member of the force and once New Glasgow proceeds on any charges, we’ll be able to release more information,” Sgt. Power said.

  1. SGT. LAW POWER eh? This name is way cooler that SGT. Preston! Shouldn’t this be a name of a cop superhero in a comic book? Maybe a sidekick to Judge Dredd!

  2. This was the same guy (Const. Blair Francis Gorman) who was suspended by the force for the August story of the member who was using the government credit card to fill Gasoline Can’s. This is why the guy wasn’t on active duty during this case of shoplifting.
