RCMP officer found not guilty of criminal harassment

(CTV Winnipeg) – A judge has found RCMP officer Jeff Moyse not guilty of two counts of criminal harassment in a case involving his former relationship with a Crown attorney.

The decision was delivered in a Selkirk courtroom Thursday morning.

RCMP Cpl. Jeff Moyse had been in a relationship with Crown attorney Debbie Buors in 2008, until she ended the relationship early last year.

In the case against Moyse, the Crown said that repeated calls, text messages and emails sent to Buors after the relationship ended amounted to harassment, making Buors fear for her safety.

In her decision, Provincial Court Judge Christine Harapiak said that even though Moyse acted inappropriately at times, there was no evidence to suggest he did anything criminal.

  1. Catspajamas, like Deepthroat has said time and time again, charges are often pushed because the person is police officer and poor cases are put before judges so nobody can say the internal investigation or the Crown let the guy off because he was a cop.

The best case of this that I can think of was the Hudak sexual assault case. The complainant had a crush on the guy, a history of making false allegations, and had fabricated evidence. This going to trial and getting into the papers caused endless rumor and innuendo in the force, it ruined his reputation and his career. Nobody wanted to work with him anywhere- especially women.

  2. The judge also stated that the elements of the offence had clearly not been met. Leads me to wonder why charges were even pursued.
