Merritt, B.C. (Canadian Press) – A Merritt RCMP officer who admitted to assaulting an aboriginal man in 2005 has been sentenced to six months house arrest.
That was the penalty requested by the Crown after Constable Saxon Peters pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for beating Glenn Shuter and abandoning the injured man 10 kilometres outside Merritt. He has been suspended without pay by the RCMP and still faces an internal disciplinary hearing.
