Winnipeg, M.B. (Edmonton Journal) - A dramatic car chase along the Trans-Canada Highway east of Winnipeg early Saturday morning ended with one RCMP vehicle in the ditch and another smashed up before the pursued driver was taken into custody.
RCMP were informed around 9:30 a.m. that a large, silver half-tonne was barrelling west down the highway at speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour, headed toward Winnipeg. The truck, bearing Ontario licence plates, careened from side to side down the highway, even bouncing off medians.
The chase ended when one RCMP vehicle tried to run the truck off the road. The RCMP car ended up in the ditch. The truck then smashed into a second RCMP vehicle. The chase lasted at least half an hour.
