RCMP custody death investigated

(Global Media) – A group of police officers from the Lower Mainland are in Penticton to investigate local police after a man died in RCMP custody.

Penticton RCMP were called to a man causing a disturbance in a parking lot on Martin Street just after 1 p.m. Friday.

When police arrived, paramedics were working on the 39-year-old man who had collapsed.

Once he was revived, the RCMP arrested him and walked him over to the police car where he collapsed again.

The man was immediately transferred by paramedics to Penticton Regional Hospital where he died an hour later.

New Westminster police officers have been brought in for a formal investigation. Their report will be forwarded to the public complaints commission.
