B.C. (CBC News) – Two young men have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a crash between an RCMP cruiser and a Ford Mustang in the Fraser Valley east of Vancouver late Tuesday night.
An RCMP officer from the Chilliwack detachment was also injured in the crash, but has been released from hospital.
The Abbotsford Police Department’s major crimes unit has taken over the investigation of the incident, which occurred on the Lougheed Highway about three kilometres west of Hot Springs Road in Agassiz around 11 p.m. PT.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the 20-year-old driver of a Mustang is suffering from critical injuries and the 19-year-old passenger is suffering from serious injuries.
The Mustang was the lead vehicle in a convoy of four or five vehicles filled with young people heading to a social gathering in nearby Harrison, police have confirmed.
MacDonald said the RCMP officer was responding to a call at the time, but could not say if the cruiser had its lights or sirens on.
The Lougheed Highway, which is also known as Highway 7, remains closed to traffic near Bodner Road in the Fraser Valley.
