RCMP blame confusion for lack of 911 response

March 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Yarmouth, N.S. (Canadian Press) - An internal RCMP inquiry indicates that a breakdown in communications caused Nova Scotia police not to respond to a recent 911 call.

The incident happened last week in Yarmouth after the director of the Boys and Girls Club made an emergency call from her cellphone thinking an intruder was in the building.

But officers never showed up.

Sgt. Frank Landry says a rash of false alarms from the day care at the facility led to some confusion.

He adds that the confusion contributed to a breakdown in communication between the Operations Communications Centre in Truro and members on the road.

Landry says while people expect the police to be there when needed, they don’t want their tax dollars wasted while officers chase down false alarms.
