RCMP announces Name the Puppy contest

January 29th, 2008 · No Comments

He may not become a famous movie police dog like Hooch in the 1989 movie Turner and Hooch, but if your choice of name for a German shepherd puppy born at the Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail, Alta., is selected, you can be sure the dog you named will grow to become a valuable asset to the RCMP in apprehending criminals and keeping people safe.

The RCMP invites young people from across Canada to name 10 German shepherd puppies born at the PDSTC centre.
“In 2007, we received over 5,000 entries from boys and girls nationwide,” said Insp. Lawrence Aimoe, the officer in charge of the centre. “This contest provides a tremendous opportunity for Canadian children to take part in a police program that saves lives and protects their neighbourhood.”

Aimoe noted young people are encouraged to be original and imaginative in finding names that will serve these puppies well in their career with Canada’s national police force. When thinking of names, it is important to keep in mind that these are working police dogs, not pets.

The deadline for entries is Feb. 25.

Contest rules include the name start with the letter “A” and not have more than nine letters. Contestants must be 16 years old and under. Mailing address is, “Name the Puppy Contest”, Police Dog Service Training Centre, Box 6120, Innisfail, Alta. T4G 1S8.
