Andy Ivens, Victoria, B.C. (The Province) - Tim Shields took over his news duties as head of the B.C. RCMP’s strategic communications section yesterday promising to bring a fresh approach to a job fraught with peril.
“For me, the challenge is going to be building a better relationship with the media, one that consists of trust and openness,” said Acting Staff-Sgt. Shields, 42, a 12-year veteran of the RCMP.
“We, as a police force, do want to be transparent in every way that we can. Of course, there are some things that we can’t make public, especially when something’s before the courts or is under investigation.
