Jonathan Montpetit, Montreal, Q.C. (Canadian Press) - A Quebec judge has given the RCMP free rein to use violent undercover agents whose actions go unchecked, say lawyers representing a man who saw his $47-million lawsuit against the Mounties dismissed. The allegations are made in a notice of appeal filed with the Quebec Court of Appeal by Alain Olivier, a Quebecer who spent eight years-four of them on death row-in a Thai prison following an RCMP sting operation.
He was paroled six months after being transferred to a Canadian jail in 1997.
