Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day Orders Border Agency to Make Improvements

Josh Pringle (CFRA) ) – The Canada Border Services Agency is being ordered to implement quick changes at border points.

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day has directed the agency to increase surveillance cameras and translation services for travellers and those waiting to meet them.

The agency issued an internal report on Monday with a series of recommendations.

Day says he wants to make sure no one else suffers the fate of a Polish immigrant at Vancouver airport last month.

Robert Dziekanski languished for hours in a secure area of the airport as his mother waited outside, trying in vain to get help from airport and customs officials.

He died after he was Tasered by the RCMP.
