It seems they did absolutely everything wrong. There have recently been a number of well publicized incidents involving RCMP misconduct and misconduct by police in general. When I was a kid I was taught that if I was in need of assistance, find a cop and ask for help. I think it would now be more prudent to do that only if accompanied by a witness.
