Charges against a Maple Ridge RCMP officer have been stayed following an incident in May 2006.
Steve Frazer and another officer, Pat Hughson, were involved in the assault of two people in downtown Maple Ridge while off-duty.
Hughson pleaded guilty in the case, while Crown spokesperson Stan Lowe explains why Frazer was given the more lenient decision, “Mr. Frazer was found to be an appropriate candidate for the alternate measures program, completed his diversion agreement and as a result, the Crown entered a stay of proceedings and since we’ve determined that Mr. Hughson was the main participant in this particular case, we continued with charges in relation to him.”
The alternate measures in question refer to a program of community service.
