(Halifax Herald) – An off-duty RCMP officer acquitted in February of having care or control of her car while impaired has been arrested for drunk driving.
Lunenburg County RCMP got a call on Easter Sunday about a vehicle that had gone off the road by Risser’s Beach, on Nova Scotia’s South Shore.
Witnesses told police that the driver was drunk and had identified herself as an RCMP officer, according to an RCMP news release today.
Before officers could get to the scene, however, the car was towed out of the ditch and the driver left.
RCMP officers found the empty car in Conquerall Bank. After searching the area, they found the driver and made an arrest, the release says.
Catherine Frances Mansley, 43, has been charged with impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on June 9 at 9:30 a.m.
Mansley was found not guilty in February of having care or control of her vehicle while impaired by alcohol.
After the acquittal, her superiors told The Chronicle Herald that her status with the force was “not operational”.
That meant she would be on the payroll, but restricted to administrative duties and not out in a car patrolling.
A spokesman said at the time that her status “will be reviewed by senior management in H Division in order to determine her future status.” It was unclear Friday afternoon what her current status is.
An officer with the Tantallon RCMP detachment, Mansely went on trial in Liverpool provincial court in February to face a charge of having care of her vehicle while her blood alcohol readings were above the legal limit.
The judge ruled that she was impaired and had open liquor in her car but he acquitted her because he was convinced that she did not intend to drive her car that night.

An off-duty RCMP officer acquitted in February of having control of her vehicle while impaired has been charged in a new case with drunk driving.
Catherine Frances Mansley, 43, is to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on June 9.
Lunenburg County RCMP got a call on Easter Sunday about a vehicle that had gone off the road by Rissers Beach.
Witnesses told police that the driver was drunk and had identified herself as an RCMP officer, according to an RCMP news release issued Friday.
Before officers could get to the scene, however, the car was towed out of the ditch and the driver left. RCMP officers found the empty car in Conquerall Bank.
They searched the area, found the driver and made an arrest, the release said.
At her trial in Liverpool provincial court in February on the previous charge, the judge ruled that Mansley was impaired and had open liquor in her car but he acquitted her because he was convinced that she did not intend to drive her car that night.
After the acquittal, Mansley’s superiors told The Chronicle Herald that her status with the force was “not operational.” That meant she would be on the payroll but restricted to administrative duties and not out on patrol in a car.
A spokesman said at the time that her status “will be reviewed by senior management in H Division in order to determine her future status.”
Her current status is unclear.
