Liverpool, N.S. (Canadian Press) - A Nova Scotia RCMP officer will go to trial in the fall on two counts of assault.
Const. Addie MacCallum is accused of assaulting Terry Russell and his friend Cory Peach at their home in Port Mouton, N.S., in June 2005. MacCallum’s lawyer enter pleas of not guilty to the charges Tuesday in a Liverpool, N.S., court.
Three days have been set aside for the trial beginning Nov. 25.
Russell filed a complaint with the RCMP in 2006 and launched a civil suit against the officer for damages.
The RCMP complaints division dismissed the complaint but the force later decided to press ahead with charges against MacCallum following a criminal investigation.
