(CBC News) – A North Vancouver RCMP officer has been charged with assault following a complaint he used excessive force during an arrest this summer.
Const. Quentin Frewing is alleged to have used excessive force during an arrest for a Liquor Act investigation on June 18 in the Lower Lonsdale area of North Vancouver, police said in statement released Friday morning.
Supt.Tonia Enger said that after she received the complaint, a criminal investigation and a code of conduct investigation were launched by the detachment. As a result of the investigation, the officer was placed on administrative duty on June 22.
“This is difficult news to bring to our community,” said Enger in the statement.
“The public relies on the officers at this detachment to keep them safe, and it’s extremely important to us all to have the public’s confidence and trust. That’s why it’s very disappointing to have one of my police officers alleged of committing an assault,” she said.
Police did not release the name of the complainant or any further details about the incident.
