Claude McIntosh, Cornwall, ON (Standard Freeholder) – Out of sight, out of mind.
That’s the new approach Canada’s federal crime busters are taking when it comes to cigarette smuggling.
So, after years of pumping out news releases proudly announcing the latest illegal tobacco bust, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are only going to be making “major” busts public.
The measuring stick seems to be a transport load, or larger.
The Mounties say that the prolific reporting of their successes was giving Cornwall a bad name and outplaying all the good news.
Of course, it means less work for Sgt. Michael Harvey, the face of the local RCMP, who is responsible for pumping out those so-called image-damaging new releases.
It certainly is a curious approach at an attempt to sanitize a community’s image and just might put the Mounties in line for a Team Cornwall honourable mention.
