Mountie found guilty in punch-up with fellow officer in B.C. charity dance

Kamloops, B.C. (Canadian Press) – A Whistler, B.C., Mountie has been found guilty of assault for punching another RCMP officer during a dance in Kamloops two years ago.

Devon Jones hit the other officer in the face and knocked him unconscious at a charity function called the Mountie Stomp in 2006. He claimed the other officer had a dangerous grip on the throat of his friend.

The trial heard that the dance degenerated to an alcohol-fuelled brawl when the violence broke out, with all the participants being RCMP members.

Jones, a five-year veteran of the force, will be sentenced later.

He is also facing an internal RCMP disciplinary hearing.
