Mountie faces charges after firing own gun

CBC News

An RCMP officer in Bridgewater is accused of firing her own gun during an argument with a former boyfriend — a fellow RCMP officer.

The female officer was arrested late Monday after an investigation into a domestic dispute a day earlier, said an RCMP spokesman.

Sgt. Frank Skidmore said the officer’s service pistol was fired into the wall of the residence.

“Shots weren’t directed at anybody and nobody was injured,” he said.

Skidmore said the officer, a seven-year veteran, was released after her arrest and is now off duty from the force until the matter is resolved.

Officer to appear in court
She’s expected to appear in court on Dec. 6, though it’s unclear what the specific charge will be.

Skidmore said a decision whether to suspend the officer from the force will be made once the criminal investigation is complete.

“These kinds of matters we take very seriously for obvious reasons, and it will be reviewed and investigated thoroughly,” he said.
