Mountie denied bail in wife-killing case

(Edmonton Journal) – An RCMP officer accused of killing his wife was denied bail Wednesday in Court of Queen’s Bench, but the decision could be reviewed in the coming months.

Tirth Sehmbi, 37, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the killing of his wife, Rajpinder, who was found dead in their south Edmonton Jackson Heights home on July 10.

An autopsy revealed Rajpinder Sehmbi, 29, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Numerous neighbours reported hearing gunshots coming from the house at 44 Jefferson Road early that morning.

A judicial publication ban prevents the release of evidence and other details heard during the bail hearing.

Sehmbi had been a member of the Stony Plain RCMP at the time.

Relatives said the couple had some problems and were temporarily separated in 2004 before reuniting.
