A Fisher Branch RCMP officer has been charged in connection with a domestic incident early Saturday.
Gimli RCMP were called to Misty Lake Lodge in the lakeside community north of Winnipeg about 3:25 a.m.
Police said a woman told officers she had been assaulted by her husband. The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and did not require immediate medical treatment, Gimli RCMP said.
A constable currently posted at the Fisher Branch RCMP detachment has been charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm and choking to overcome resistance.
He was released from custody on a promise to appear and has a court date scheduled for Jan. 25, 2010.
The constable will be placed on administrative duty pending further review, an RCMP news release stated.
The Winnipeg Sun is not naming the man so as not to identify the alleged victim.
