Elphinstone, Manitoba (Globe and Mail) – A Manitoba RCMP officer has been charged with attempted fraud in connection with an alleged off-duty incident involving a collision claim for a personal vehicle.
RCMP say the charge follows an investigation by Manitoba Public Insurance into a claim filed last summer for an accident near the community of Elphinstone.
They say inconsistencies in that claim led to a further investigation by the Crown-owned insurance company and subsequent referral to Manitoba Justice.
Mounties were told last month about the investigators’ findings and an independent Crown opinion that was sought by the insurance company.
Cpl. Houman Shoaai of Elphinstone was charged on Monday and will appear in a Minnedosa courtroom on June 29.
Cpl. Shoaai has been reassigned to administrative duties and will face an internal disciplinary hearing.
