Mountie arrested for assault

Vancouver police arrested a Richmond RCMP officer outside a Vancouver nightclub after a call for help involving a domestic assault yesterday morning about 2 a.m.

Const. Jason Ing, 36, was charged with assault after the early morning altercation.

Richmond RCMP will conduct an internal investigation of its officer, who they say is a Vancouver resident.

“Charges have been laid against one of our members and as a result it’s a Vancouver city police investigation,” said RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen.

“We have initiated an internal investigation in regards to the allegations in front of the courts.”

Thiessen, chagrined at the news, trusts the case is being handled fairly.

“It’s an unfortunate set of circumstances and it’s not something any police department wants to deal with but certainly it’s being dealt with appropriately.”
