Man dies in Kelowna RCMP custody

Gord Vizzutti, Kelowna, BC (AM 1150) – A 30 year old Kelowna man has died in RCMP custody after a bizzare incident at the Malibu Grand Prix in the Rutland area.

RCMP Sgt. Anne Morrison says emergency personel got the call at about 2 o’clock on Sunday afternoon.

“Witnesses report that the male was wearing his underwear and was showing obvious signs of distress: screaming, jumping over bushes, shrubs and equipment… causing some damage to some video games inside the premises, causing quite a stir.”

Morrison says, “He was showing some signs of medical distress; foaming at the mouth and complaining of shortness of breath. He was therefore transported to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance immediately. He died at the hospital about an hour later.”

Since the man died in police custody, a secondary police department will review the incident. Morrison says that police department will most likely come from within BC.
