(CBC News) – A man, 36, is dead after being held in custody by the RCMP in Swift Current [Saskatchewan].
A police spokesperson said the man, who’s from the Gull Lake district, had been in custody since being arrested last Friday.
Police haven’t said what charge he was facing. He appeared in court on Monday and had his case put over until Wednesday afternoon.
He died in the RCMP cell block at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Swift Current coroner’s office, the RCMP’s forensic identification and major crimes units are investigating how the man died.
His name has not been released, but his family has been contacted.
A coroner’s inquest is mandatory when a person dies in police custody, although nothing has been set yet.
That sounds like natural cause to me.
