Christina Spencer (Sun Media) Ottawa – Several federal government departments are failing in their obligation to provide public information in a timely manner to Canadian citizens, Canada’s information commissioner said today.
In his annual report card on government performance, Robert Marleau gave failing grades to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Health Canada, Public Works and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On the other hand, he ranked the Justice department and Library and Archives Canada highly.
“The poor performance shown by institutions is symptomatic of a major information management crisis throughout government,” Marleau said in a written statement.
“These gaps are clearly indicative of a lack of leadership at the highest levels.”
