Former Coquitlam RCMP watch commander sues senior Mounties

Neal Hall, Vancouver, B.C. (Vancouver Sun) – A former Coquitlam RCMP watch commander is suing a number of senior Mounties, claiming he was unfairly removed from his job.

Alfred Cory Hamelin claims he was promoted to command the “A” watch at the Coquitlam RCMP detachment on Dec. 18, 2007.

But following a “flawed managerial review of harassment and other managerial and workplace troubles,” he was removed from his position on July 19, 2008.

He claims the managerial review, “which was not conducted reasonably and fairly, amounted to discipline without just cause.”

He further claims being removed from his job amounted to wrongful and constructive dismissal.

Hamelin is seeking damages for loss of income, loss of reputation, lost opportunity for advancement and future income.

Named as defendants are RCMP Insp. Michael Diack, Staff-Sgt. Kevin Jones, Assistant Commissioner Peter German and Supt. Peter Lepine.

The plaintiff also claims the federal and provincial governments are vicariously liable for the acts of RCMP members in B.C.

Vancouver lawyer Marjorie Brown is representing Hamelin.

The lawsuit contains allegations that have not been proven in court.
