Families of young men killed in police custody say they want a civilian agency investigating such deaths, not other cops.
Linda Bush, whose son Ian Bush was shot by a Mountie in October 2005, is among those participating Monday in a public forum hosted by the B.C. Civil Liberties Association.
Bush says the RCMP seemed to be following a script during the internal investigation of her son’s death in Houston, B.C.
And she says a coroner’s inquest into her son’s death earlier this year dealt only with the facts from a police investigation, not why he was killed.
Bush says in-custody deaths are more common than people realize and that it’s time Canadians started calling on politicians to make the necessary changes.
Murray Mollard, executive director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, says there were four in-custody and in-pursuit deaths in August alone.
Right,
When it comes to the Police they are suppose to be the good guys and the bad guys well we know they hide things.
So tell me with no differenmce between them both except the color of the clothes and all the departments that are created to make sure no one even gets to the truth or the end.
Tell me how are we the people going to do something about the system that ven the Governments have helped setup to curb anything just from happening who really attacks the ones that have want to see changes while the ones who are not at all after justice keep getting away… eh?
I know I have been fighting to find out why I was shot while on duty for over 26 years and in a small town of 4,500 people no one has yet been charged and all the investigators are now retired… yes RCMP!
Until we unite and demand action we will get nothing but the run around… Lets start a web site to encourage people to speak up and then forward this to the top guy… The Minister of Public Safety and Security…. when it comes to money and their jobs then they will act….
