Ex-Mountie sentenced for child pornography

(Mississauga News) – A former RCMP officer who police say has been living in Mississauga with his mother has been given a 12-month conditional sentence for possessing child pornography.

Andrew Ugrica, 39, resigned from his North Vancouver RCMP detachment in January, before giving a guilty plea.

His lawyer told the court Ugrica now plans to stay in Ontario, where he has family and friends.

Under his sentence, Ugrica cannot own a personal computer, go to public places where there are children under the age of 16, be out after 7 p.m. orĀ  own weapons. He must submit to random home searches, psychiatric testing and register as a sex offender. The judge in the case said he is not a threat to the community.

Ugrica was arrested last year after police discovered 6,500 pornographic images on his computer, including 85 of children.
