Canada captures man on US ‘most-wanted’ list

October 26th, 2007 · No Comments

(Agence France Press) - A escaped prisoner on the US Marshals Service’s list of 15 most wanted criminals and an expert in sneaking out of jail was nabbed in Canada by a novice officer, police said Friday.

Richard Lee McNair, 48, who snuck out of a Louisiana prison in April 2006, was arrested Thursday by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during a highway inspection in New Brunswick province in eastern Canada.

McNair attempted to flee, but he was stopped by a young officer with only two months on the police force.
“You caught a pretty big fish,” McNair told the officer, according to police.

McNair was serving three life sentences for murder, attempted murder and burglary when he escaped the prison in Pollack, Louisiana, hiding himself in empty mail sacks. It was his third escape from jail — in one he crawled out through a ventilation duct.
