Saskatoon, SK (Canadian Press) – The brother of a man shot and killed by RCMP in northern Saskatchewan has asked Mounties to be pallbearers at the funeral so they can “finish the job and take him to his grave.”
Walter Haineault says he has not yet received a response to his request that officers carry the coffin at Monday’s funeral on the Clearwater River Dene First Nation north of Saskatoon.
His younger brother Harry Haineault, 38, was shot on the reserve Tuesday night.
RCMP say two officers went to a home to arrest a man for outstanding Criminal Code warrants, but he fled on foot.
One of the officers chased him down and a single shot was fired as the two struggled.
The shooting is the fourth involving the Saskatchewan RCMP since June.
