RCMP in British Columbia have launched a new feature entitled ‘Setting the Record Straight’ on their media relations website.
In a media release issued by RCMP ‘E’ Division spokesman Staff Sgt. John Ward, police said they intend to use the for-the-record feature to elaborate on or clarify information published in the media.
“Over the course of a day RCMP media relations officers across British Columbia work closely with media outlets to provide information to the public via news broadcasts and publications,” the release states.
“Understandably, due to time and space considerations, it is not always possible for the various news outlets to include entire interviews. This may lead to comments and information appearing out of context.”
The first publication — available online at www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/bc — took aim at alleged inaccuracies in a recent opinion piece published in The Province. The article was signed by Chief Supt. Peter German, district commander of the RCMP Lower Mainland district.
