B.C. RCMP officer facing impaired charge

Todd Coyne (Vancouver Sun) – A B.C. RCMP officer is facing impaired driving charges after Langley RCMP officers apprehended her shortly after she left the Cascades Casino on July 2.

After receiving a complaint about a suspected impaired driver, responding officers pulled over the off-duty Mountie, who was in her personal car, and identified her as an officer from a unit of the RCMP’s “E” Division

Headquarters, according to police.

“Every police officer has seen first-hand the trauma and heartbreak caused by drinking and driving,” RCMP “E” Division spokeswoman Cpl. Annie Linteau said in a press release Wednesday. “Every case of impaired driving is disappointing but especially when it involves a police officer.”

The Langley RCMP continue to investigate the incident and will send the results of their investigation to Crown counsel to consider whether criminal charges will be laid.

According to “E” Division Headquarters, the accused officer’s employment will also be reviewed by the Crown.

The Mountie’s name will not be released to the public until after the Crown proceeds with charges against her, Linteau said.

The accused officer will be making her first court appearance on August 26, 2010 in Surrey.
