(Toronto Sun) – An RCMP officer in Nanaimo, B.C., faces an assault charge after allegedly hitting a person in the face while responding to a complaint about a noisy party.
On Aug. 1, Const. Francois Veillette, 39, was one of the officers who responded to the party for a second time.
While at the scene, Veillette allegedly hit “a member of the public” in the face, police said in a release.
The force’s professional standards unit investigated and turned the case over to the Crown’s office, which laid the charge of assault causing bodily harm.
Veillette, who has served with the RCMP for 4 1/2 years, is scheduled to appear in court in January.
A separate police code of conduct investigation into the alleged assault continues.
