Another B.C. police officer busted for drunk driving

Vancouver, BC (Vancouver Province) – An off-duty RCMP officer is scheduled to appear in provincial court November 20 after being arrested early Saturday morning for impaired driving.

Vancouver police arrested the RCMP constable after he apparently lost control of his vehicle and collided with a barrier on the south end of the Second Narrows Bridge at 4:22 a.m Monday.

The officer, who was working in general-duty protective policing based out of the RCMP’s Vancouver headquarters, was off-duty at the time of the incident and in a personal vehicle that was heavily damaged in the accident.

Two civilian passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The driver received a 24-hour suspension and a 90-day administrative driving prohibition.

He is facing charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

As a result of the incident he has been re-assigned to administrative duties pending an RCMP code of conduct investigation.

He will not be named until charges have been approved by crown counsel.

In other cases involving police, a Vancouver police officer was arrested by Burnaby RCMP for impaired driving August 30.

Another off-duty RCMP officer was arrested for impaired driving in the death of a motorcyclist last October in Delta.
