Vancouver — A prominent B.C. criminologist says numerous recent reports of RCMP misconduct may reflect greater public scrutiny and reveal little about the performance of the organization.
“It reflects greater demand by the public and by a range of non-governmental organizations for greater scrutiny and greater accountability, and that is a healthy development,” Neil Boyd, a professor of criminology at Simon Fraser University, and the author of seven books, said yesterday.
In the most recent report, the RCMP revealed that its internal-affairs unit in B.C. had launched 81 investigations since January, 2005.
