A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer has had an assault charge withdrawn

Jana G. Pruden, Regina, Sask. (Regina Leader-Post) – An RCMP officer has had an assault charge withdrawn by the Crown after successfully completing the Regina Alternative Measures Program.

Insp. Dave Stephen Sabean was charged with assaulting another male RCMP officer during an off-duty incident in the Regina suburb of Wascana View earlier this year.

City police were called to the area at about 3:15 a.m. on March 14 after a report of a physical altercation. Sabean, 43, was then arrested and charged.

The Crown later referred the matter to the alternative measures program, which allows first-time offenders to deal with a charge outside the court system and avoid a criminal record.

The requirements of the program include the accused’s acceptance of responsibility for his or her actions.

Having met all the requirements of the program, Sabean had the charge withdrawn by the Crown on Tuesday.
